We had another doctor's appointment yesterday and everything looks great! I'd only gained 2 pounds since the last appointment, my blood pressure was back down to normal and there were no crazy, over-emotional, crying breakdowns this week! I'd consider that a successful appointment! Doctor says I'm still measuring right on track and all looks well.
I know you probably don't believe me anymore but her room is inching closer to being ready for the furniture. I touched up the ceiling last night while Nick worked on the baseboards. He has two more to install tonight while I paint the doors and door frames and then we should be done! Hopefully we'll have pics to post on Monday.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Time Is Flying
Time just seems to be flying by these days and we are staying very busy!
We started our "preparation" classes last night for little Neptune's arrival. We learned everything you could ever want to know about breastfeeding and got a little refresher course on baby care basics. It was a long night but I definitely think it will be worth it in the long run. I'm pretty nervous about the breastfeeding thing but feel a little bit better after the class. She answered a lot of my questions and at least I now have some idea of what to expect. They gave us a few tips and tricks to try if things aren't going well, which will be nice in those sleep-deprived-freakout moments. This Saturday we have a marathon Lamaze class and we have Infant CPR next Wednesday. We also have a doctor's appointment Thursday so keep your fingers crossed that all goes well and there's no crying meltdowns like last time!
We're making some progress on Neptune's room and hope to have her crib and dresser set up later this week. I'm so excited I can't stand it! Only 2 more months until she arrives!

31 Weeks
Today marks 31 weeks in the journey to Neptune's arrival. I can't believe how fast things seem to be going right now. So far, the pregnacy is continuing to go well and I can't really complain. I'm definitely feeling a lot bigger this week and my stomach has gotten a lot harder. I'm starting to outgrow some of my early maternity clothes. Let me just tell you how good it makes your ego feel when you outgrow clothes that are made for pregnant women! I must be huge. Hopefully that just means that little Neptune is getting bigger and stronger every day!
We've had one crazy week here in Ohio. Sunday we experienced a ridiculous wind storm that was a combination of the reminants of Hurricane Ike and another frontal system from the west. We had sustained winds of tropical storm strength with gusts up to a category 1 hurricane...did I mention we're in OHIO???? Nick and I enjoyed trying to walk in the wind while looking like those reporters on the Weather Channel during a hurricane. It really is kind of fun. We eneded up losing power for over 72 hours and sustained some damage to our roof and garage door. We were upset at first but I suppose that's why you have insurance! We were lucky enough to be pampered for a few days at Dick and Linda's house so the lack of power wasn't a huge deal to us. The storm could have been a whole lot worse so we're counting our blessings.
In other news, Neptune's furniture has come in and should be arriving at our house as I type this. I'm so excited! I can't wait to get her room completed so we can add the furniture and eventually add our little girl! I'll definitely post pics when we get it put together.

Right on Track
We had another doctor's appointment on Wednesday and were happy to hear that little Neptune is measuring "right on track." After hearing the ultrasound tech tell us how "fat" she was last weekend, we were somewhat concerned that I might be growing a giant. Doctor says that's not the case and from her measurements, everything looks normal. Phew, no 15-pounder for me!
I've been having a really rough week with work and it all finally came to a head on Wednesday when I busted out crying in front of the doctor. My work has already hired my second maternity-leave replacement after firing the first one a few weeks ago. No, they didn't tell they had done this either. The communication around here leaves a lot to be desired.
While the girl seems nice, she's very slow on picking things up and demonstrated her manipulative side on Wednesday right before I left for the doctor. That made me late for my appointment and made me very upset. Then, the doctor was running 45 minutes late so I had a long time to sit in the waiting room and stew over the replacement's behavior. When the nurse checked my blood pressure, it had gone up from my last appointment but still wasn't considered "high" and was most likely due to the stress of the day. For some reason (I like to blame it on the hormones:)) that just sent me over the edge. I started crying and couldn't seem to stop. It was just too much for me to think that my job was potentially causing harm to myself or to Neptune. The worst part is that all of the stress I was feeling from the job could have been avoided by the management keeping me in the loop as to what was going on and what they expected of me in regards to training the new girl.
I cried in the doctor's office, I cried on the way home, and I cried again when I got home. It felt so good to let it all out but at the same time, I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown. After talking with a friend, I decided to let it all go and develop a better attitude about the whole situation. If they want me to sit here and do nothing for the next 10 weeks, so be it. I will be the best "sit around and do nothing" person you have ever seen! I can't let them get to me and have to protect myself and my daughter. So far, the new attitude seems to be working a little better. I feel a lot less stressed at the end of the day and hope that it's able to continue.

1 Year Down...
So, in honor of our 1st wedding anniversary, I thought I'd list 5 reasons I love my husband!
1) His sense of humor. I swear, he has the strangest sense of humor but it never fails to make me laugh. We can laugh about the stupidest things but always seem to "get" each others' jokes. I don't know what we would do without the laughter that we share.
2) He's a true family-man. My Mom once told me to watch how a guy treats his Mom because that's how he'll treat you one day. If she's right, I picked a great guy! Nick would do anything for his Mom, or just about anyone for that matter. He puts family first, no matter what else is going on. That's not to say that he doesn't have his disagreements with family members, but he knows that in the long run, family is all you have, and makes an effort to forgive and forget. His family is comprised of some of his closest friends and he values those relationships beyond measure.
3) He is great with kids! Nick is a total kid-magnet. They just seem to flock to him. Watching him play with kids just melts my heart. He's gentle, patient and understanding and loves teaching kids new things. He plays football with the neighborhood kids and didn't even freak out when the ball left a dent in the hood of his beloved truck. He's a true kid at heart but isn't a pushover. He's not afraid to discipline one of the kids if they're in the wrong but does it lovingly, not by yelling. He's going to be the best Dad any kid could ask for and I can't wait to see him holding his very own little girl.
4) He does chores. That's right ladies, my man does the laundry AND the dishes on a regular basis without having to be asked! Did I pick a keeper or what???
5) He takes great care of me. I was always fairly independent but now that I'm preggo, I've had to back off on some things. Nick has totally picked up the slack. He's always there to refill my water, cook me dinner, carry heavy things or just make sure I'm comfortable. He's very protective of me and the baby and works very hard to make sure that we have what we need. He lets me watch my goofy TV shows (the he secretly loves but will never admit to), tucks me into bed and lets me steal the covers whenever I want. Who could ask for more?
I love you Nick! It's been a wonderful first year as a married couple and I look forward to many, many more with you!
Our Daughter's Face
We were lucky enough to have a 3D/4D ultrasound this weekend as our anniversary gift to each other. Dick and Linda came with us and Edgar and Shelley were able to view the whole ultrasound live from their home computer. Neptune was kicking and moving all around and kept shielding her face from the ultrasound tech for the first few minutes. Finally she settled down and gave us some great shots of her adorable little face. It was so surreal to sit and watch our little girl on the TV screen and know that she will be here soon. I kept thinking to myself, "I can't believe that is OUR daughter. One we get to keep forever and ever."
The ultrasound tech was oohing and aahing over her every move and kept commenting on how cute she is. Nick says that she probably says that about everyone's baby, but I'm pretty sure our little Neptune is just extra-cute. She's a definite cuddle-bug and kept trying to cuddle with the placenta. Too cute! We got to see her smile several times and she even opened one eye for a few seconds. There's no doubt that she's my baby either. The ultrasound tech said she had some "serious thighs for a baby," long hands and feet and was already developing fat rolls and a double chin. Looks like she's going to be a chunky baby!
It was the best anniversary gift either of us could have imagined. Now we can't wait to see her face in person!

Just for Aunt Shelley
Aunt Shelley informed me that Neptune's blog is not interesting enough and needed a little boost. After stalking some random person's blog accidentally, she discovered that you can add music to make the reading experience more enjoyable. So, I have officially added music to the blog. I totally suck at music though so I couldn't think of very many songs. Suggestions for additional songs are always welcome! Hope this new addition helps you to enjoy your blog-reading experience a little more now.
